Basseterre, St. Kitts, October 10, 2017 – On a rainy Tuesday morning, in an intimate classroom setting, students and teachers of the Tucker-Clarke Primary School received a generous donation from the William Marcus Natta Memorial Scholarship Fund (WMNMSF). Dr. Marcus L. Natta, co-founder and chair of the WMNMSF, delivered dozens of markers, pencils and pens to the school.

“It is always a pleasure for our Scholarship Fund to give back in any way we can to the Tucker-Clarke Primary School and indeed to our nation as a whole,” said Dr. Natta. “We thank our generous donors for their financial and in-kind contributions that help us to sustain this level of philanthropy.”

During the brief handing over ceremony, Dr. Natta interacted with Grade 5 students and urged them to respect themselves, respect their teachers and respect their school. He encouraged them to never forget the solid educational foundation that they are receiving at Tucker-Clarke and to give support to their school in the future.

Ms. Latoya Merchant thanked Dr. Natta and the Natta Scholarship Fund, on behalf of Tucker-Clarke Primary, for the timely donations and for continually supporting and partnering with the school throughout the years.

The founding committee pioneered the Scholarship Fund at Tucker-Clarke Primary School in 2010 and extended the scholarship to students of the Irishtown Primary School in 2016. Over the past seven years, the Scholarship Fund has given assistance, totalling more than EC$7,000 to 15 primary school students and has donated over 3000 educational items to those schools.

According to Dr. Natta, the Scholarship Fund is also coordinating efforts to assist primary school students in the Commonwealth of Dominica in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria.

The William Marcus Natta Memorial Scholarship Fund was established in April 2010 to support students in grades five and six who demonstrate academic excellence, sound moral character and passion for community service. Each year, a male and female student are selected for the scholarship award.
