Irishtown Primary School Students Now Eligible for Scholarship

Basseterre, St. Kitts – The William Marcus Natta Memorial Scholarship Fund is expanding its reach and assistance to elementary school children by adding another primary school to its scholarship pool. Starting in March 2017, the William Marcus Natta Memorial Scholarship Fund will offer scholarships to students in grades five and six at the Irishtown Primary School. The announcement was made by Dr. Marcus L Natta, co-founder and chair of the William Marcus Natta Memorial Scholarship Fund, during a recently held Parent-Teacher Association meeting at Irishtown Primary School.

“This is an exciting step for the Fund and our board of trustees as we work to exemplify our motto, ‘A Helping Hand Along Your Way’ ,” Dr. Natta said. “We see this as a natural extension of the Fund and its mission to build the next generation of leaders by supporting academic excellence and community service.

Irishtown Primary was selected for its personal connection to the Natta family. “My father attended Irishtown Primary and so it was an easy choice for us to choose Irishtown as the second school within our Fund’s fold,” Dr. Natta said to the teachers, staff, parents and guardians in attendance at the PTA meeting.

Jean Nisbett-Boddie, head teacher at Irishtown Primary School, thanked Dr. Natta and the Scholarship Fund for giving their students this opportunity and urged parents and guardians to encourage their students to take advantage of the scholarship opportunity.

The William Marcus Natta Memorial Scholarship Fund was established on April 8, 2010 to support students in grades five and six who demonstrate academic excellence, sound moral character and passion for community service. The Scholarship Fund was pioneered at the Tucker Clarke Primary School.

Over the past five years, the Scholarship Fund has given assistance, totalling more than EC$5,000 to 12 students. In October 2015, the Scholarship Fund donated more than 3,000 items including exercise books, markers, erasers, papers, pens and pencils to teachers and students at Tucker Clarke Primary and Irishtown Primary Schools.
